Frequently Asked Questions

  • Happy Tails East is strictly a social play environment and is only appropriate for dogs that are comfortable spending a good deal of time interacting with other dogs. HTCC East is unable to accommodate dogs that need to be kept separate due to medical or behavioral issues.

Happy Tails West features four traditional kennel style suites to accommodate dogs that need to be kept separate due to behavioral or medical issues. *West is currently not accepting new members for the traditional kennel option*

  • Please bring enough of your dog’s own food to amply cover their boarding stay. We want them to stay on their own normal diet to avoid gastrointestinal upset. We accommodate all types of food; dry, wet, raw etc. Treats are also welcome and will be given to your dog with their meals. You are welcome to bring any of your dog’s belongings from home including a bed, blanket, or toys. However, we do not allow rawhide chews as they present a choking hazard. Real bones, antlers, and Kong toys are great choices for dogs that like to have something to chew on when they are in their suite. If your pet is on medication please bring more than enough and leave it in its original bottle. We provide our own bowls for your dog’s use, we even keep slow feed and raised bowls on hand.

  • Here at Happy Tails we strive to give each dog individualized attention and care while maintaining a group setting. Many of our clients are older or senior dogs that still enjoy an active lifestyle. However, older dogs that get tired very easily, have weakened immune systems, or have mobility issues may do better in a home or traditional kennel setting. We do accommodate dogs that take medications or have minor medical issues as long as your vet has cleared your dog to be in a group play environment. If you are unsure of how your older dog would adapt to a social environment please discuss this with your veterinarian.

  • While every dog is perfect, they might not always act perfectly and we understand that! Our experienced staff is able to work with a wide spectrum of dog personalities and quirks. Proper socialization with other dogs and people is an important aspect of dog ownership, and we seek to make all dogs within our care as comfortable as possible. If you are unsure of whether a group play environment would be appropriate for your dog, please call or email us.

  • All dogs that come to Happy Tails are evaluated as individuals, regardless of breed or size. We understand that some breeds are genetically predisposed to certain behaviors and play styles, and work to manage them accordingly whenever possible. Dogs in our care are separated into three groups according to size, age, and temperament. Our three sections each feature an indoor and outdoor area that the dogs are allowed to move through freely. Each play group is actively monitored by staff members to encourage healthy interaction and play, and interrupt or redirect undesirable behaviors.

  • As any pet owner knows, dogs can get into altercations for a number of reasons. We take every precaution to minimize these risks through rigorous supervision and policies designed to keep the dogs safe. Every dog that comes here has undergone a day of evaluation to ensure that any behavior problems are manageable and within our allowable spectrum. We understand that no dog is perfect and seek to create a setting where social dogs and dogs that are learning to be social can coexist harmoniously. Should an altercation occur, our staff are trained to quickly and efficiently separate the dogs involved. We keep a full in house first aid kit for minor injuries, and our veterinarian is just down the road in the unlikely event medical attention is necessary.
